THE TAMED SHREW
Friday, January 20, 2023 – 8:45pm
Deeply rebellious, resolutely modern, the Taming of the Shrew claims the right to speak and to a certain freedom.
THEATER OF PÉZENAS
At the dawn of the 17th century, space, the world, became a place of exploration and myth, revealing in Shakespeare a triple attachment to tradition, fantasy and modernity. Here, Frédérique Lazarini proposes a new vision of The Taming of the Shrew by putting it in relation with the Italian comedy of the 50s and 60s, which also deals with social criticism in a buffoonish way and with a certain insolence of tone. Italian comedy in cinema has its sources in several theatrical traditions: the commedia dell’arte, of course, whose influence remains preponderant in the typology of the characters, and the picaresque narrative for the general framework of the story, but also in the comic interludes of the popular Music-Hall, which was very much in vogue at the end of the war (reference to Totò, the famous and mythical Neapolitan comic).
Theater for all audiences from 12 years old.
Duration: 1H30
Prices : 25/20/15/10 and 5 euros
By William Shakespeare
