Museums
Located in a green setting at the entrance to Cap d’Agde, the Musée de l’Ephèbe et d?archéologie sous-marine presents the wealth of Agde’s heritage. Exceptional collections, resulting from 50 years of discoveries in the Hérault river, in the sea and in the Thau lagoon, which testify to the economic activity of Agde over the centuries. For Agatha, a 2,600 year old Greek city, a crossroads of civilizations, has revealed real sunken treasures: shipments of crockery, armaments of the royal navy, maritime transport of amphorae and raw materials, trade in works of art? including the famous statue of Alexander of Agde, known as “the Ephesian”, the only Hellenistic bronze to have been found in French waters. Etruscans, Greeks, Romans, Celts, Visigoths, Saracens, Vikings, Spaniards, Italians: all have left their mark on the history of Agde.
