The destination Cap d’Agde Méditerranée is a land of volcanoes. There are many geological sites where you can find the famous “black rock”. The black sand beach of the Grande Conque, the Mont Saint-Loup and the basaltic causses of Caux and Nizas are the witnesses of this local specificity. Basalt and volcanic stones have been used to build numerous structures and churches, notably those of Agde and Saint Thibéry. Mount Saint-Loup is the last volcano to emerge from the Puys d’Auvergne chain. Its eruption (750 000 B.C.) and that of other submerged volcanoes have led, in part, to the formation of the site of Cap d’Agde. No access by car
