Le Grau d'Agde

Presentation

Le Grau d'Agde, the authentic charm of a Mediterranean village.

After flowing through Agde, the River Hérault meanders down to the sea. Here, on the left bank at the mouth of the river, lies the village of Le Grau d’Agde.

The heart of the village beats to the rhythm of fishing and beach life.  It was developed in the early 20th Century when families of Italian fishermen came to expand the small hamlet built in the previous century around a few fisherman’s cottages.

Between the wars, Le Grau d’Agde became a holiday resort.
The typical, charming Mediterranean village is known for its culture, architecture and maritime traditions.
The sanctuary of Notre-Dame-du-Grau is only a short distance from the river. It commemorates a legendary miracle that took place in the Middle Ages and is now a place of pilgrimage on the Saint Jacques de Compostelle route
.

In season a ferry service provides a direct crossing to the other bank of the Hérault: La Tamarissière.
