This ancient volcano marks the southern end of the Puys d'Auvergne chain. Its eruption in 750,000 BC, together with that of other underwater volcanoes, partly led to the formation of Le Cap d'Agde. Evidence can be found in features such as the cliffs, La Grande Conque, Le Môle, Rochelongue, Mont Saint-Martin and the islet of Brescou. No access for vehicles. The summit offers panoramic views over Agde and the surrounding region. The C.R.O.S.S.MED monitoring and rescue service (page 38) is operated from the signal station. "Discovering signs of volcanic activity in Agde" Guided walk : exploring the countryside, vegetation and geological history of Le Cap d’Agde and Mont Saint-Loup, beginning at the cliffs. All year round (schedule may vary), weekly in high season, with the A.D.E.N.A. |
