Le Cap d'Agde

Beach protection and quality

Protection of the environment and beach user comfort are priorities here.

The beaches are closely protected. They are equipped with watch posts, sanitary facilities, wooden boards for wheelchairs and push chairs.

Agde preserves and emphasizes the natural environment of the coastal region :

  • by making the expansion of green spaces and the protection of sensitive sites a priority,
  • by protecting the marine environment and the dunes, especially by installing "ganivelles" (wooden palisades that prevent the dunes from drifting and help vegetation to grow),
  • by seeing its efforts rewarded with good quality bathing water and the award of the European Blue Flag for harbours,
  • by equipping beaches ("beach access" signposting, litter bins, sanitary facilities) and by cleaning them daily in summer.

The protection of the Mediterranean, of course, depends on everyone's vigilance. Users are invited to respect this natural heritage so that it maintains all its delights.

Moreover, access to the beaches is forbidden to dogs, horses, and motor vehicles from May 1st to October 31. Beach fires and free camping are not allowed.
